Apps not downloading on iPhone?
Have you ever come across a situation where the apps suddenly refuse to download on your iPhone?
It sounds weird, but many iPhone users have been facing this issue on their devices. And if that’s not enough, the causes of this problem are quite diverse too.
So, in this post, let’s try to address this issue. Let’s see if we can tackle the problem and get things right as they should be.
Since the apps not downloading issue is such a diverse issue, I’ll share as many tips as possible in the post below.
Tips To Fix Apps Not Downloading On iPhone Issue
Here’s the list of solutions that might help you in solving this issue on your iPhone –
1. App Store Down
Many times Apple shuts down App Store for a short period. This small window allows them to put up some new features and changes to your favorite apps download store.
Now, if you try to download any app from the store during that process, you might receive a communication error on the screen.
To avoid this type of issue, you should wait for a few minutes before attempting to explore the App Store or downloading any apps from it.
2. Stop the download process
If there is no progress at all, you can pause the download process.
Later, you can perform some of these steps –
- Toggle the Airplane mode
- Restart iPhone
- Check the network connection
That’s all you need to do! Now, you can start downloading the app again.
3. Large file size
Yes, it could be related to the file size as well!
If the network connection speed is slow, you should expect it to reflect during the app download process.
And unfortunately, there is nothing much you can do about it. You will probably need to get a better Wi-Fi connection or Cellular Data plan.
You may try downloading such apps at night, as the network congestion eases out during this period.
4. Delete the app and download again
Does your app downloading process take forever to complete?
Or is it stuck somewhere in the middle of the process?
Don’t worry! Just delete the incomplete application and try to download it later.
5. Network Errors
Believe it or not, but this is one of the most common reasons for the apps not downloading on iPhone issue.
Whenever you attempt to download an app from the store, you require a stable connection throughout the process. If you come across any interruptions or other network connectivity issues, the app download process will not get completed.
And sometimes, you might even see the download progress bar stuck at the same positions for hours and hours. This thing happens when the communication between Apple’s servers and network provider’s servers breaks intermittently.
To overcome this problem, you should activate both Wi-Fi as well as Cellular Data options on your device.
As you can see above, this simple trick will allow the App Store to push the download file to your device if any of your networks go down.
Of course, it’s a good idea to have a backup network connection, but you should also resolve the issues of the current network.
Your network operator may also block the App Store due to various reasons.
In such situations, you can either go for another reliable network connection or wait for them to fix the issue at their end.
6. Low Battery
Apple provides Low Power Mode on all iPhones, which helps preserve battery on your device.
When this mode is active, the Automatic Downloads option will remain disabled. And you will have to charge your battery if you want to resume the downloading process.
If you can’t charge the battery for some reason, you can disable the Low Power Mode from the settings. Here’s how you can do it –
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to Battery and disable Low Power Mode.
Done! Now, the Automatic Downloads option will start the downloading process again.
7. Low data space on your iPhone
Another common issue!
If you’re using a 16GB iPhone or have used most of the space on your device, it’s always a possibility that you won’t have enough space for new apps.
Although you can get a new iPhone with more space, it’s not the best solution for many users. So, if you have no plans to upgrade your device soon, all you can do is delete unwanted apps to make some space for the new apps.
Generally, the Photos, Videos, and Games consume a lot of space on the iPhone devices. You can also move them to your Mac or another iOS device if you wish to try a new iPhone app.
Apart from deleting the existing apps or files, you can also purchase some additional space on iCloud or any other cloud-based services.
8. Resolve the app memory issue
The app memory issue never gets as much attention as it should in the world of gadgets.
This issue can also prevent you from downloading apps from the App Store. If there is not enough space to run the app efficiently, you won’t be able to download your favorite apps.
To solve this problem, you will have to create extra space for other apps. And it can be achieved only by removing inactive/resource-intensive apps from the background.
Here’s how you can remove such apps on your iPhone –
- Open the Home screen and double-press the Home button on your iPhone.
- Swipe up the unnecessary background apps.
- Open the App Store app again and start downloading your favorite apps.
If you are still facing the issue, check out the following suggestions.
9. Sign out of App Store
This trick can help fix the problem if there is a glitch in the system.
The signing-out process should resolve any connection error related to your account and will allow you to access the App Store resources.
Follow these steps to sign out of your App Store account –
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap the Apple ID option.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and tap the ‘Sign Out’ option.
Once you’re signed-out, sign back in after a short while.
10. Restart your iPhone
The next step of the action should be restarting your iPhone!
If you ever land in a situation where there’s no other solution, restart the device.
This quick action will help your device to cool down a bit. It will also force all the running processes to stop immediately.
So, make sure you restart the device whenever you feel something wrong with the App Store. You can also perform the Hard-Reset option if the normal restart doesn’t work.
11. Download supported Apps
Trying to download the unsupported app?
The iOS system supports Apple-approved apps only, which means you can’t download or use third-party apps on your device.
If you are trying to get such application through unofficial channels, it might affect the download process.
Also, the third-party app may also interfere with the download of other supported applications. Therefore, you will have to resist the temptation of installing unofficial apps on your iPhone.
Note – Even if you succeed, the next iOS update will close the loopholes that allow the entry of such apps. And you might face even more issues on your device.
12. Update iOS
It is recommended to download and install the latest version of iOS on iPhone, as it keeps the device updated with new features and security fixes.
If you have not updated your device in a while, check the Settings app and download the latest available update.
With new iOS update, you can also find an updated version of your app in App Store. And this app version might resolve the download error for you.
13. Reset Network Settings
As you know, the apps download process requires a stable network connection to get the files from Apple’s servers.
To get the stable connection, you need to fulfill these two criteria –
- Decent network provider
- Proper network settings
If there are any issues with the network settings, you will have difficulties in downloading the apps on your device. So, make sure you reset the network settings to fix this problem.
14. Reset iPhone Settings
Similar to above suggestion, you can reset the iPhone settings too.
However, do keep a backup of your device before performing the reset. It will wipe out all your data.
To reset the Network and iPhone settings, you can go to the Settings app and perform these two tasks accordingly.
15. Visit Apple Store
Still, apps are not downloading on iPhone?
No problem! It’s likely to be a software issue, and you don’t have to worry about it at all.
Get an appointment with the Genius Bar and let them examine your issue. I’m sure they will help you resolve this problem.
And if they can’t resolve it, you may get a new replacement iPhone for absolutely no cost. Of course, your iPhone must be under warranty period.
