Whether you like it or not, the mobile phone’s notifications have become an integral part of our lives.
And sometimes, when you notice your iPhone’s notification sounds not working, you do feel something missing from your device. You do miss updates that might be important to you.
So, how do you tackle this issue? Is there any way to make notification sounds work again?
Well, there are a few ways through which you can find out the reason for such behavior on your iPhone. You will have to execute those methods and tricks individually so that you can fix this problem.
In the following post, I have shared some of those tips and tricks that might help you get back your iPhone’s notifications sound. So, let’s get started.
1. Airplane Mode
Did you forget to switch off the Airplane Mode on your iPhone?
Many times we don’t remember to turn this mode off after getting out of an airplane, which often blocks all network connections on our phones. So, make sure you’ve deactivated this mode on your device.
This feature can also lead to no sound issue on the iPhone.
If you have enabled the Silent mode on your iPhone, you will receive all lock screen updates and phone calls without any notification sound. That’s right!
Although this mode is quite useful for office meetings and other such places, you should always check the Silent switch to be able to receive all your updates with a notification sound.
To disable this mode, follow these steps –
- Hold your iPhone and check the Silent switch on the top-left side.
- Turn it upside using your finger to disable this mode.
Do Not Disturb Mode
Similar to the Silent mode switch, Apple has also provided a relatively new feature called Do Not Disturb in recent iOS update.
This feature lets you block all your phone calls, messages, and other notification updates. You can use this feature while sleeping at night so that you get a sound sleep without those frequent notification updates.
However, if you haven’t scheduled this feature as per your daily schedule, you might not receive any updates from your friends and family.
If you want to disable this mode, you will need to follow these simple steps –
- Swipe up on your screen to open the control panel on your iPhone.
- Tap the Half Moon icon if it’s already enabled.
Done! Now, you will start receiving all your notification updates as usual.
Apart from above two features, you will have to take a look at the volume control as well.
If the volume is at the lowest level, you won’t hear anything as far as notifications are concerned. You will have to increase the volume level to get the sound back.
Here’s how you can raise the volume level on your iPhone –
- Open the Settings app on iPhone.
- Go to Sounds and increase the volume level.
Tip – Don’t forget to check other settings like Ringtone, Text Tone, New Voicemail, New Mail, Sent Mail, etc.
There’s another simple way to increase the volume. You can use the volume button on your iPhone. So, do use this trick if you find above steps a bit time-consuming.
Along with the above routine checks, you should also have a look at the notifications settings of different apps on your iPhone.
You can check these settings as shown below –
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap Notifications.
- Scroll down and tap any app from the available list.
- Now, enable the notification sound as depicted in the following screenshot.
In this settings panel, you can go through all apps and check whether the notification sound is enabled.
Low Power Mode
The Low Power Mode is another feature where you might face difficulties while receiving notifications from some apps.
This feature automatically turns off some features (Mail fetch, Background App Refresh, Automatic Downloads, etc.) of power-consuming apps.
If you have enabled this feature to save some battery on your iPhone, you might not receive any notifications during this time. And if there are no notifications, it’s quite likely you won’t hear any notification sound from your device.
Therefore, it’s necessary for you to check these settings on your device.
It could be a software glitch too. So, it does make sense to get the latest software on your device.
Apple schedules regular updates to its iOS system, which help in fixing a lot of issues. You can download these updates from your device’s Settings app.
Go to the Settings app and tap General. Then, select Software Update.
That’s all you need to do. The iOS system will automatically look for any newly available updates for your device. You can download the software and install it later as prompted on your screen.
Reset Network Settings or Phone Settings
If you have tried all the tricks mentioned above in this post and still facing issue with notification sounds, you can think of resetting the device settings.
There are two types of settings available on iPhones – Network Settings and Phone Settings.
You can try resetting these settings respectively to see whether you get back the notifications sound on your device.
And yes, do backup your device to iCloud or your computer before performing the reset option.
iPhone’s Hardware Issues
As you can see, the tips and tricks suggested above are very much related to the software of your iPhone.
But what if the issue is related to some hardware parts?
That’s true! The speakers or some connectors may have stopped working altogether. And you wouldn’t notice these issues if there’s no real sign of damage on the device.
Sometimes, people also drop their iPhones in water, which can also make things worse as far as internal parts are concerned.
To fix the hardware issues like this, I’d not recommend you to try some adventurous tricks on your device at home. It’s always sensible to take your device to the nearest Apple Store.
Let them examine your iPhone and diagnose the cause of this issue. Be sure to check your device’s AppleCare warranty before heading to the store. You might save a few dollars if the iPhone is under warranty.
For others, you can visit third-party repair stores at your risk. They might also charge you a lot if it’s going to be a logic board or speakers replacement solution.
So, that’s it for this post for now. If you have any other suggestion that can fix the iPhone notification sound issue, share it in the comments sections below.
