And if you’re new to the system or need some assistance, I’ve provided a detailed guide below to perform these tricks.

Guide To Fix Your iPhone Battery Draining Issue

It’s time to get your hands dirty!

Let’s begin learning the steps to solve the battery issue on iPhone.

1. Stop iPhone Usage Immediately

Yes, that’s what you need to do when you see any inappropriate battery behavior on iPhone.

Just stop using it!

As you stop operating the device, it’ll immediately have an impact on the battery usage. The consumption rate will drop down drastically, and it’ll also prevent your device from overheating issues.

As mentioned above, the overheating and overuse are the primary reasons for poor battery performance on iPhone.

2. Close All Resource-Intensive Apps

In the iOS system, the apps are known to consume lots of power.

So, this tip should be your next step to prevent further battery drain on your device.

Follow these steps to close all such apps –

  • Double press the Home button to find the background app screens.
  • Now, swipe up to remove the inactive apps from the background.

These inactive apps also consume a lot of battery on iOS devices, so don’t forget to remove them regularly.

Note – If you remove apps from the background, you can still use them whenever you want. You just have to open them again.

3. Restart Your iPhone

If the battery is draining suddenly without any reason, you should restart the iPhone.

When you restart your phone, it stops all processes on the system and prepares the devices for the new beginning.

Once the device is up and running, examine the battery performance for a day and follow some other tips if required.

Tip – If your iPhone is overheated, don’t perform the restart function. You can shut it down for 10-15 minutes so that it cools down well.

4. Enable Low Power Mode

The low power mode is a compelling feature on iPhone devices.

And if your device is having issues with the battery, there is no better way to fix the problem than enabling this mode. It does help in saving precious battery hours on the phone.

Here’s how to enable Low Power Mode –

  1. Open the Settings app on iPhone.
  2. Select Battery and tap the Low Power Mode option.

Low Power Mode on iPhone

For those who don’t know, this mode helps in using the device without wasting much power on unnecessary features like visual effects, Hey Siri functions, notifications, etc. These features will be disabled temporarily, as you turn on the Low Power Mode settings.

If you feel like using one of these features on iPhone, you may disable the mode.

5. Use Airplane Mode

Similar to Low Power Mode, the Airplane Mode feature can reduce the burden of your iPhone’s battery.

Steps to enable Airplane Mode –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Airplane Mode to turn it on.

When you turn on this mode, it disables all network related services that allow us to connect with the world. It will turn off the carrier access, cellular services, Bluetooth, and Personal Hotspot on your iPhone.

Since these are the most resource-intensive tasks on the iOS platform, you might observe significant improvement in battery performance after enabling this mode. With this feature, your iPhone will offer more battery hours than usual cycle.

You may also disable Wi-Fi connectivity if not required.

6. Enable Auto-Lock Feature

This feature is a hidden gem in itself, and not many people know how to use it effectively on their iPhones.

The Auto-Lock feature swiftly turns off the display light and locks the screen after a specified time interval, which means your device won’t have to drain the battery while not performing any tasks.

You can specify the time as shown below, and it will start functioning as per your guidelines.

Steps to follow –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select the Display & Brightness option.
  3. Tap Auto-Lock and select the desired time.

Auto-Lock Interval on iPhone

Wait for iPhone to Auto-Lock the screen as per given time interval.

Now, if you forget to lock the screen manually, you don’t have to worry at all. The Auto-Lock feature will lock the screen and save some battery hours for you.

7. Delete Unimportant Apps

Many times we download applications for some fun or trial run, but don’t use them later.

Well, these unimportant apps do occupy space on iPhone’s storage disk. If you have many such apps on the system, it’s likely to affect the overall battery consumption.

Also if you haven’t updated these apps in a while and still using them on the iPhone, it can drain the battery all of a sudden.

So, do not save such apps on the device.

Delete them immediately!

8. Disable Location Services

Ever since we’ve started using location-based apps and services, it has only had a negative impact on mobile phone devices.

These services increase the battery consumption, as many apps require constant connectivity to your accurate geolocation. And you can’t do much about it if the app has all your permissions to access networking services on iPhone.

If you have installed such apps on your phone, you can uninstall them or disable the location services access from the Settings app.

Here’s how to do it –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Privacy and tap the Location Services option.
  3. Disable the services.

Location Services on iPhone

Similarly, Apple has also provided a feature to grant permissions to individual apps. Scroll down the same screen window and manage Location Services as per your preference.

9. Disable Notifications

The notification system has changed the way we use our iPhones these days.

However, the notifications also use networking services to receive latest updates from apps. And as you know, many news apps and social media apps thrive on a continuous supply of notifications on mobile devices.

So, if you want to preserve your battery for long hours, you can disable notifications on your iPhone.

You may also skip your favorite apps to receive their notifications, though I’d not recommend selecting multiple resource-intensive for the notification updates. If you do so, it won’t help much in reducing the battery consumption.

How to disable notifications on iPhone –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Tap any app from the list and select the Allow Notifications option.
  4. Disable the notification alerts as you want.

Disable Notifications

So, that’s how you disable notifications!

10. Disable Background App Refresh

The Background App Refresh is a useful feature of the iOS system.

If this feature is turned on, it keeps looking for new information and updates in the background.

For eg., Likes on your Facebook post.

If you post something on Facebook and receive a few likes in the next hour, the Background Refresh feature will try to fetch all new data from Facebook to give you latest updates and notifications.

Although this feature is quite useful in receiving frequent updates from apps, you might see a sudden drop in your iPhone’s battery. The reason is quite simple! It requires battery charge to request all that data each time.

Steps to disable Background App Refresh –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select General and tap the Background App Refresh.
  3. In this window, select the same option and turn it off.

Turn Off Background App Refresh

You can also keep this feature on for your favorite apps.

11. Disable Visual Graphics Effects

With iPhone 6 models, Apple has started introducing some impressive visual effects to iPhone devices. The graphics effects make the whole iPhone experience even better than what we have experienced over the years.

But as they say, you need to compromise on something if you want something better in life.

Even though Apple’s engineers have worked hard to optimize these features in the iOS system, there isn’t much respite for iPhone users. You will still see a significant drain in battery life if you use these stunning features frequently.

So, there is no other option than disabling some of these features on your device. But what are those features?

Here’s the list –

  • Zoom
  • Magnifier
  • Larger Text
  • Bold Text
  • Increase Contrast
  • Reduce Motion
  • Live Wallpapers

You can change the settings of them from the Settings app on iPhone.

12. Disable Vibration Mode

The Vibration Mode is one of the most useful inventions in the mobile world. If you have a busy life around phone calls and meetings, you’d know the importance of this cool feature.

But what’s wrong with this feature?

It consumes power too! Lots and lots of battery power!

Each time you receive a call or notification alert, the system requires an immense amount of power to vibrate the device. It’s not so easy to move such large screen phones.

And if you receive too many calls each day, your iPhone’s battery will start draining sooner than expected.

So, it’s better to disable this mode on iPhone. Let’s take a look at the steps.

Steps to disable Vibration Mode –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select General and head over to Accessibility.
  3. Scroll down and tap Vibration to disable the mode.

Once you disable this mode, you will notice the positive change in your iPhone’s battery life.

13. Change Wallpaper Settings

Seriously!

We often neglect these small things and look for some uber solutions to fix our problems.

If you can change your wallpaper from Live to Still wallpaper, it’ll consume less amount of power on the device.

Let’s see how to do it –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Wallpaper and tap Stills.
  3. Select any wallpaper you like and set it as your lock screen and home screen background.

If you don’t like the default stills, you can choose something from Photos app too.

14. Optimize Screen Brightness

Again, another small thing, but it can save a few battery hours for you!

In the iOS system, you can enable the auto brightness option to minimize the battery usage.

How to enable Auto-Brightness –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select General and tap the Accessibility option.
  3. Go to Display Accommodations and enable Auto-Brightness.

Done! Now, you don’t have to think about the screen brightness issues.

Raise To Wake –

Since the launch of iPhone 6S devices, Apple allows users to use the ‘Raise To Wake’ feature. I love this feature on my iPhone!

However, if you raise your iPhone frequently, it’s going to drain the battery. And you won’t even know why your battery percentage indicator drops so fast.

Steps to disable this feature –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Display & Brightness and disable the ‘Raise to Wake’ option.

When you disable this feature on iPhone, you will need to click the Home button or sleep/wake button to check the home screen.

Yes, it’s going to be an extra step, but it’s worth your efforts. You’ll see the improvements in battery life!

15. Turn Off Siri

That’s right! Turn it off.

Although it’s a great initiative as far as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is concerned, Siri does play a role in losing the battery so fast.

It also performs different background tasks for the better understanding of user data, which means your device will always need extra power to carry out these processes.

So, what do you think? Do you want to turn it off now?

Here’s how you go –

  1. Open Settings and select Siri & Search.
  2. Look for the ‘Press Home for Siri’ option and disable it.
  3. You will see a pop-up menu. Just tap the Turn Off option.

Turn Off Siri Settings

Note – If you turn off Siri, the system will also delete data logs from Apple servers. And when you turn it on again, it will start collecting new data for machine learning purpose.

16. Disable Push Mail Services

The Push Mail works similar to the Background App Refresh technique.

It fetches new emails in the background while you’re busy working on something else. With this feature, you don’t have to refresh email screen continuously. You will automatically receive a notification if there is any new email pushed by the mail servers.

The biggest problem with such techniques is that you will have far less control over the automated activities. Once you set the fetch interval, it will start draining the power to find new emails each time.

So, there is no point in enabling such feature on iPhone.

Steps to disable Push Mail services –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Accounts & Passwords.
  3. Select the Fetch New Data option and disable the ‘Push’ feature.
  4. Scroll down and select the ‘Manually’ option.

Fetch New Data Manually

Tip – If you don’t want to set up the Manually option, select the longest possible time interval to fetch the mail data.

17. Remove Unwanted Widgets & News Services

Say goodbye to these features!

Check the widgets section on your iPhone and find out the widgets that are not so useful in your daily activities.

You might come across some unimportant widgets like Stocks, News and Weather. If you don’t want to receive such information on your device, you can just remove them from there.

All these widgets use the battery to display relevant information on the screen. So, it’s always good to have fewer widgets or only useful widgets in this section of your iPhone.

18. Clear Browser Data & Website Tabs

Why is it so important to clear browser data and tabs?

Good question!

The browser data is nothing but the collection of old files on your browser system, which makes the app more bulkier as you use regularly.

It’s also good to know that your device will fetch more charge as the data size increases over the years.

And regarding website tabs, don’t keep too many tabs opened because your Safari or Chrome app will need extra power to run all those tabs in the background.

Got the point?

Cool! Now, go ahead and clear the old data and website tabs from your browser.

19. Install Latest iOS Software Update

Apple recommends its users to download and install the latest updates for iOS platform.

These software updates usually help in fixing the security bugs. Sometimes, Apple team also includes battery related patches and improvements in such iOS updates.

So, if you have missed any software update recently, you should download it now.

How to download and install iOS updates –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General and select Software Update.

iOS Software Update

That’s it! Wait for Apple to find the software update for your iPhone model.

Once it downloads the software file, tap the install option to complete the installation.

20. Check Carrier Settings

The network service provider/carrier is equally important when it comes to the battery issues on iPhone devices.

If the carrier doesn’t provide stable network signals, the iPhone will apparently waste the battery charge in finding these signals. So, check the carrier settings and make sure the signal strength is good enough.

And if your carrier is not able to provide reliable service at your place, do try out some other services with value for money features.

21. Turn Off Networking Services

Whether it’s Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Mobile Data or Personal Hotspot, there is no battery saver on this list.

All these networking services will thoroughly enjoy that battery pie on your device!

If you don’t know how to optimize the use of networking services, you will always face the sudden drop in iPhone’s battery charge.

How to optimize network usage?

It’s simple! Just turn off the networking services when you don’t need them.

Read the following steps to turn them off –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Bluetooth and turn it off.

Like Bluetooth, you can use the same steps to disable other unwanted networking services. You will find all these settings on the same screen.

22. Reset Network Settings

What if the above trick doesn’t work?

You can go one step ahead and reset the network settings.

If you reset these settings, it will help in cleaning some glitches in the networking system.

Note – Follow these steps only if you know how to set up the network settings again. You can even note them down somewhere before performing the following steps.

Steps to follow –

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General and select the Reset option.
  3. Tap Reset Network Settings and enter the passcode.

Reset Network Settings

The iPhone will now delete all previous network settings and restart the system.

Later, you can add the network details to the respective network settings. You may also request new network settings from your carrier. Their support staff should happily share the setup details with you.

23. Reset iPhone Settings

Yes!

If you’ve tried all the above tips and still seeing the fast battery drain on iPhone, you should consider performing the Reset All Settings option.

It’s not the best thing to do, so do think before wiping out all your data. Also, do take a backup of your files on iTunes or iCloud.

Once you perform the reset, you won’t get another chance to revive previous settings. And the only way to do is restoring the iPhone from a saved backup.

Alright, let’s get started! Check the steps below.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select General and go to the Reset section.
  3. Tap the first option, that is, Reset All Settings.
  4. Enter the passcode and let the magic begin!

Your iPhone might take a couple of minutes more to wipe out all the settings and restart the system.

The iPhone settings reset trick should help fix the battery draining problem. But if you’re not satisfied with the results, you can always restore the settings from your backup files.

24. Use iPhone In Acceptable Operating Temperature

Many of you might be working or living in a place where the conditions may not be suitable for your iPhone.

Here’s an excerpt from Apple’s recommendations

Use iOS devices where the ambient temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature. Using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off. Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures. Using an iOS device in very hot conditions can permanently shorten battery life.

As you can see, we often overlook such useful suggestions while using the electronic gadgets.

Try to follow this suggestion from Apple. Don’t use your iPhone in extreme conditions.

25. Visit Apple Store

The Last Option!

Don’t wait now; take the appointment of Apple’s support guys.

You’ve already tried all possible tricks to fix the battery draining issue, and there isn’t much left to do.

Your device might need a battery replacement, or there may be some other issue with the connectors. But these things should only be handled by professionals. Don’t experiment hardware fixes at home!

And if you have AppleCare or AppleCare Plus, you might even get a brand new iPhone from Apple. So, do check those details as well before visiting the store.

TL;DR –

Whoa! That’s quite an in-depth guide to fix the battery on iPhone.

But if you’ve skipped reading the detailed suggestions, no problem.

If you’re still looking for some quick suggestions, here’s what you need to do –

1. Don’t use everything at once. Use some of these suggestions first and observe the changes. Bookmark this article and come back again to try some other suggestions later.

2. Try the tip #2, #3, #4, #8, #10 and #21. You will see an instant improvement if your iPhone’s battery is draining fast all of a sudden.

3. Apple is your best friend when you want to resolve such complex issues. So, don’t hesitate to visit their store for repair.

4. If you’re using an old iPhone like iPhone 5 or iPhone 6, you might experience low battery cycles with new iOS updates. And it’d be difficult to fix this problem permanently.

So, you should think of upgrading to some newer iPhones like iPhone 8 or iPhone X.
