How To Fix Location Not Available Error On iMessage

iMessage’s location sharing feature is quite useful when you want to stay connected with your friends and family members.

However, in recent times, many users have faced some issues similar to the ‘Location Not Available’ error on iMessage, which probably appears after downloading and installing the iOS 11 update on iPhones.

Since it’s not a widely-known issue, there is no official solution to solve the error. However, you can try some workaround techniques that might help in finding the location of the desired person.

Fix Location Not Available Error on iMessage

In the following post, I have shared some useful tips and tricks to solve the location error on iMessage.

1. Enable Location Sharing on iPhone

That’s the first thing you should do when you see the location not available error pop-up on your screen!

You should check whether the location sharing service is active or not on the device. If it’s not enabled, you won’t be able to see the location of your friend in iMessage app.

So, how do you enable this service? Check out the following steps –

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your Apple ID profile and select iCloud.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of your screen and tap Share My Location.
  4. Enable the Share My Option and close the Settings app.

Even though this feature should work with any network connectivity, some users have noticed different behavior on their devices. It only works when Wi-Fi is on.

  3. Scroll down and tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset All Settings.
  5. Enter the passcode and let the device perform its reset process.

Your device may restart a few times when you perform this task.

Now, you can try and track your friend’s location on iMessage.

Whenever you see this type of error on iMessage, you should perform some checks that can help you eliminate other possibilities. Sometimes, you might even fix the problem altogether.

Here’s the list for you –

  • Check network connectivity on sender as well as receiver devices.
  • Make sure there is no network outage or service issues at carrier’s end.
  • Confirm Internet connection (Wi-Fi and Cellular Network) on both iPhones.
  • Close iMessage app and reopen it after a few minutes.
  • Restart your iPhone.
