As you know, Siri is a good learner of our voice commands. It always uses our information (input commands and responses) to come up with better answers each time.
Although this machine learning technique improves the Siri performance, many users don’t like the idea of using their data for any other purpose. And in such cases, it’s better to reset Siri on your devices.
So, are you thinking of resetting Siri on your iPhone? Here’s a quick guide for you –
Guide To Reset Siri On Your iPhone
Currently, Apple doesn’t provide any specific settings or utility to reset the data from Siri.
You can only reset Siri by using some workarounds on your iPhone. Let’s take a look at these methods below –
1. Disable Siri
This step will allow you to disable Siri instantly, which means it won’t be able to collect any further data from your mobile phone.
As mentioned above, Siri’s algorithms and response mechanisms heavily depend on the data you provide while using this virtual assistant. When you remove Siri’s access to iPhone, Apple automatically resets the information stored on their servers.
Steps to disable Siri on iPhone –
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Select Siri & Search.
3. Tap the Press Home for Siri option as shown below.
4. Select the Turn Off Siri option.
Now, you’ve successfully disabled Siri on your device. If you want to re-enable it, just tap the Press Home for Siri option again.
Note – Since you’ve disabled the virtual assistant earlier, it won’t have any previous data to answer smartly to your queries. It might take a few days or weeks to get back to the normal state.
So, just be careful while resetting Siri on your iPhone. Think twice before selecting the Turn Off Siri option.

2. Disable Dictation
Now, you may ask why do I need to disable dictation if I’ve already disabled Siri.
Well, the Dictation feature also uses the same information collected for Siri’s activities. And if you’re very concerned about your private data, you should disable this feature as well.
Here’s how you can disable the Dictation feature on iPhone –
- Open Settings.
- Select General and go to Keyboard.
- Toggle off the Enable Dictation option.
- Tap the Turn Off Dictation option from the popup.
Once you reset Siri and Dictation services, Apple will stop storing your information on their servers.
Note – Other apps may still store some information to provide a personalized experience on iPhone.
3. Reset iPhone Settings
This one is your final step to reset the Siri data!
Even though I don’t recommend performing this step, you can still go ahead and reset the device. It will wipe out all your data at once.
Important – Don’t forget to backup your iPhone data on iTunes or iCloud. If something goes wrong, you can always restore the device using these backup files.
Let’s see how to reset your iPhone –
- Open the Settings app on iPhone.
- Go to General and select Reset.
- Select Reset All Settings and enter the passcode.
And that’s all you need to do to reset your iOS device. Now, sit back and wait for iPhone to do the magic. It will take a couple of minutes to clean all your files and data.
Again, you should only perform this step if you’re 100% sure of what you’re doing and what you want on your iPhone. You will lose ALL your iPhone information after performing the above steps.
How To Reset Siri Without Resetting The iPhone
Is there any way we can avoid the phone reset step and still manage to reset Siri?
If you perform all three above steps, you will have a brand new device in your hands. So, if you don’t want to reset the phone, don’t do it.
Just perform the two steps (Disable Siri and Dictation) as suggested in this post, and you will still be able to reset Siri. The final step only helps in wiping out everything on the device.
After disabling Siri and Dictation, you can re-enable both these features if you want. The services will start gathering new information from scratch, which means the algorithms will have to process and produce outputs as per new findings. It won’t be able to provide answers based on old information.
How To Reset Voice Settings in Siri
What to do if you’ve already set up a different voice in Siri’s settings? What if you want to add your voice to use Siri?
Good news! You can do that as well. You don’t have to reset or disable Siri entirely.
Check the following steps to understand the method to set up a new command voice in Siri –
- Open Settings and go to Siri & Search.
- Enable the Listen for “Hey Siri” option and set up the voice by saying Hey Siri a few times.
- Restart iPhone.
- Unlock the screen and say the Hey Siri command in your voice.
It should open the Siri app immediately. If it doesn’t appear on your screen, repeat the same words.
And if it still doesn’t work, you will have to perform the setup steps again.
So, that’s pretty much how you reset your voice settings in Siri. If you have any doubts or queries, leave a comment below.
Pro Tip –
Don’t change the settings if you don’t know how to get back to original settings.
When it comes to resetting Siri or entire device, you should be aware of the methods to re-enable these features. And in most cases, you will have to do these jobs yourself.
The iPhone or any other gadget won’t switch back to old settings without manual commands or interventions. Our mobile phones are not so intelligent to put everything back in place as we want. These gadgets and mobile phones do require our support to set up as per our preferences.
Hopefully, we will see such advanced machine learning features in upcoming devices. Till then, you will have no other option than to do it manually.
